Humble Beginnings

A little about us, where we've come from and what the future holds:

When I opened for business in 2015, I used the online shopping platform Etsy to sell my products. I was amazed by the instant positive reaction to my work. Back then, we were open around the clock, but thanks to my wonderful customers keeping me so busy, we simply had far too much business in order to be able to make the products in time!

After a lengthy discussion with Dan, it was decided that we would take the very American approach of business and only open once a month in what is called a "Restock". This would allow us a good few weeks of making time before opening the shop to the public and also some down-time with the family which we were desperate for at this point.

It was quite a new thing in the 'Wax World' at the time and not a lot of people understood it. We lost quite a bit of custom as it was difficult for some customers to understand why they couldn't just buy our products whenever they wanted to (like a normal website). But it was something that we just had to do and in fact, it's worked out so well for us that we still do monthly Restocks to this day!

I have basically been spending my day times being Mum to little Forrest and Ivy, and the evenings making beautiful products. So it worked out really well for the whole family. However, as our business has grown over the years, the workload also increased and that meant a lot of late nights for me. I remember many a day where I would start my shift after the kids bedtime (8pm) and still be up working at 3am. It was tough going for a long time but we got through it! Forrest is now in school full-time and Ivy will be full time come January so it is only going to get easier for me going forward. I'll actually be able to work in the day and finish at a decent time!

Lots of people ask me about my long-term plan. Will I ever have a shop? The answer is I don't really know. I live in a place that is great for seasonal tourists, but shops don't tend to do that well around here as we're so far out, I think it may just be too quiet to make a small business like mine sustainable. That being said, I would like to attempt to separate my work life from my home life at some point, so if I look into the future a little bit, I see myself in a unit or some sort of warehouse with employees who can help us grow even more. I do have a little business plan up my sleeve but I'll be keeping that one to myself for the time being!

The future is exciting, but we are really enjoying the present right now. Our customers have become our friends and we really love interacting with all of them, getting to know them and their preferences and putting smiles on peoples faces and beautiful scents in peoples homes.
